How to Wash a Human Hair Wig
After the purchase most people are really pleased with the wigs they’ve just bought, but then comes the dauting moment, when it’s time for the first wash.to extended the lifespan of your wig .it is worth washing it carefully. Rough handling means that your wig will lose hair more easily leaving you with bald patches in your wig too!
Ideally, you should have following things when you wash your wig: a large bowl or basin, wig shampoo, conditioner a wide toothed comb for detangling the wet hair and a wig stand.
Part 1 - Washing the Wig
1) Starting from the ends, brush or comb the wig. Start by carefully combing out the wig's ends. After they are knot-free, Fill the bowl with cold water, put some shampoo in the water and place the wig into it. Leave the wig to soak for five minutes or so.
2) Pour cold water into your sink and mix in one or two squeezes of shampoo. Make use of a high-quality shampoo that is suitable for the type of hair you are washing. For instance, use a shampoo designed for curly hair when cleaning a curly wig. Use a colour-safe shampoo if you are aware that the wig has been dyed.
- The shampoo will not be applied directly to the wig fibres. Rather, the wig will be washed with soapy water.
- Conditioner-containing 2-in-1 shampoos should not be used. You can apply conditioner to your wig, but avoid putting it too near the roots.
- Then put the conditioner on the hair. Leave the conditioner in for 5 to 10 minutes rinse well making sure no traces of the conditioner are left in the hair gently place the wig onto a fresh towel and allow the towel to absorb any excess water.
- Use products designed especially for cleaning human hair wigs, if possible, as they will contain fewer damaging chemicals than conventional hair care products.
3) After flipping the wig over, submerge it in the water. Leave the wig fibers loose and turn the wig cap inside out with your fingers. Place the wig into the water and submerge the fibers by applying pressure. To help the shampoo get into the wig's strands, gently swirl it around.
- Since the wig cap is where the majority of the oil, perspiration, and dirt accumulate, turning the wig inside out will facilitate the shampoo's ability to reach it.
4) Let the wig soak for five minutes. Be certain that the wig is fully immersed in the water. During this period, avoid moving the wig around. Excessive thrashing, squeezing, and swirling will tangle the fibers.
5) Wash the wig with cold water until all of the shampoo has been removed. You can rinse the wig in the shower or sink, or in a bucket full of cold, fresh water. You might need to rinse the wig twice, depending on its thickness.
6) Apply conditioner to the wig. Just apply conditioner to the hair and gently comb it with your fingers.
- Use a high-quality conditioner.
- If you would rather, you can also use a leave-in conditioner.
7) Before washing the conditioner with cold water, wait two minutes. As with the hair that grows out of your head, letting the conditioner sit on the wig for a few minutes will allow the nourishing oils to penetrate the hair and hydrate it. Rinse the wig with cold water once more until the water runs clear after the two minutes are up.
8) Turn the wig right-side-out and gently squeeze the water out. With your fist, gently squeeze the hairs of the wig while holding it over the sink. However, avoid twisting or wringing the hairs as this may lead to tangles or breaks.
- Avoid brushing the wig when it's wet. This can cause frizz and harm the fibers.
To drain the excess water, roll the wig up in a towel. Lay the wig down on a fresh towel's end. Beginning with the end that has the wig on it, roll the towel into a tight bundle. Remove the wig by gently unrolling the towel after applying pressure to it.
- Make sure the strands are smoothed out and not coiled up if the wig is long.
9) Place the wig on a wig stand away from the sun and let it air dry. If your wig is curly, "scrunch" it occasionally with your fingers.
- When you scrunch, you cup your hand beneath the hair's ends, raise it up, and then curl your fingers inward. As a result, the curls gather and take shape.
Maybe the easiest way of styling the hair on your wig is to let it dry overnight on big rollers. the rollers give the hair more volume and turn the end of hair in All you need to do is to take the rollers out of the dry hair in the morning, brush it through and you are ready to go
Human hair wigs need to be washed and conditioned regularly the average is between seven and 10 days, but some people find that they need to wash it more regularly especially if they play sports.
